Keep paws and feet off
Wet carpets are slippery and can be a safety hazard. Minimise foot traffic while the carpet is drying to avoid accidents, and to ensure dirt isn’t transferred onto the clean carpet.
Allow carpet to dry
Drying time varies from 4-24 hours depending on the carpet thickness, humidity, air-flow and temperature. Not doing so can result in mould, staining or odours. If you're unsure if it is dry, try putting on some clean socks, and take a step onto it. You'll soon find out if it needs longer to dry.
Upholstery can be deceiving
Similar to carpet, the drying time for upholstery can vary from 4 - 24 hours depending on the size, type, thickness, humidity, air-flow and temperature. Even though it may feel dry to the touch, you might need to allow extra time for the padding to completely dry. When in doubt, leave it for a full 24 hours where possible.
Sitting on a wet couch may draw out dirt from its core.
Speed up drying
Using fans, opening windows and doors, as well as increasing the temperature will create air circulation and ventilation to help the carpet dry faster. Air-conditioning is also a great way to remove humidity from the air, and can significantly reduce the drying time.
Wait 24 hours to move furniture:
Returning furniture too early may cause stains and dents. It is best to let the carpet dry completely, but if unable, place something water resistant between the furniture and carpet such as plastic, blocks or tabs.
Be extra careful when placing items with metal feet or bases on damp carpet, as it may cause rust marks.
